Treehouse Book Reviews & Comments by Readers

"Dear David and Jeanie, I bought a German edition of your treehouse book and after 3 weeks of part time preparation (mental and material) I gathered all necessary stuff and tools to build it. In 3 days from 9am to 3pm with help from another adult we managed to complete it , except for the grab rails around it. The treehouse was ready on July 27,the day of the 4th birthday of my son Nicos. Thanks for the excellent tips, plans and inspiration to create such a beautiful and cosy place. My son (the blond boy in the pictures- I am the other person) suggested that on each birthday of his he will put paint on his palms and make a hand-print on the inside wall with the year noted above. So after many years he will have the mark of his palms on the wall for every year passed. Thanks again and greetings from Greece! Xenofon Gerogiannis : Lefkas island/Greece : xgerogiannis@gmail.com

"Mr. & Mrs. Stiles, Just wanted to thank you for the great books you've put out. The pictures attached show the treehouse my 9yr old daughter and I built this summer. It took 2 months and every ounce of cleverness we had. We are very proud of it! Your 2 books (Treehouses and Playhouses You Can Actually Build and A Weekend Project Book - Tree Houses) were the basis for the entire build. It is an 8' by 10' basic design, 15' up a pine tree with a small deck in front. A rope bridge and crow's nest are next. Thanks again!!!" Steve & Olivia, Hope Mills, NC TreeHouses Book by Stiles Designs

David and Jeanie - I used several of your books in researching, designing, and building - with my eight year old son and six year old daughter - our treehouse that we recently completed after just under a year of just the actual building. I thought you might like to have another picture/example of someone who successfully followed your advice and (rough) plans and definitely your inspiration. I - we - appreciate your enthusiasm, encouragement, and obvious love of doing things together. This has been a multigenerational experience for us as my own father was around for the completion of the treehouse he wished he had built, and never got to, for me - and I used some money from his own father to help get it done. So thank you and we're enjoying it! Rick Rossi, Natick, MA

"Thanks for a great book. Got the book at the start of April, and we've recently finished our treehouse project. I never would have thought I / we'd have been capable of it, but it's there ! And it's taught us all how much can be achieved with a little planning, and preparation, plus lots of hard work, determination and perseverance. Truly a valuable lesson in life !" Thanks again, Mike & Julie, and Katie & Ross B.

"This book provides all you need to know about building your tree house...our six grandchildren join me in saying 'thank you!' to David and Jeanie Stiles for a treehouse we could actually build." A reader and grandparent from Berkeley, CA

"We bought this book to get some ideas for our children's treehouse. Many of the other books are geared toward adult treehouses. Our design is certainly different from the ones in their book, but it helped us decide what we wanted to build and had excellent safety tips. Our treehouse turned out wonderfully. It is the cutest treehouse ever! (No boys allowed)" A reader from Boulder City, Nevada

"This book is a great resource. Informative, but also witty and inspiring." Alan B.

"I used the ideas and illustrations in this book to build my daughter a treehouse in our backyard. Although I used my own design, I used many of the tips for tree connections, platform supports, and other information the Stiles provide in their book. It is evident they have a real love for their subject. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for treehouse and accessory ideas." A reader from Nine Mile Falls, WA

"We built a fantastic treehouse this summer using many of the ideas from this book. My 8-yr. old son and 6-yr old daughter learned so much from the simple illustrations. The book helped us decide on a tree, a design, and gave us nuts & bolts instructions as well as many practical tips. We highly recommend this book!" A reader from Woodland Hills, CA

"With this book, I built a magnificent treehouse." A reader from Scarsdale, NY

"I requested and received Tree Houses You Can Actually Build for Christmas. It is great! I'll use it to build a tree house at our cabin for our twin three-year-old daughters. It really has a wealth of information. I really like trolleys and hanging bridges, but never thought of making them til I saw this book." by Dave G. from Colorado

I always wanted a tree house when I was a kid. So after our daughter Paige was born I promised myself I would build her one. The tree house is 10-feet off the ground (way to high according to my wife!)....is made from pressure treated wood and cedar..and has a tin roof. Inside is a ladder leading to a loft ..and a wooden table I made to fold into the wall. It took longer than I thought it would but with the help of my wife...and Alex (a friends son)...it was well worth the wait....Paige has enjoyed every minute of it!! Rich Platt

I recently completed building a Hobbit House style playhouse for my daughters (4 and 1 years old) and wanted to say thanks for your great book, "Treehouses and Playhouses You Can Build". My 4 year old (Ruby) looked through all the pictures of playhouses in the book and liked the Hobbit House best. So we decided to build that one. She picked out the paint colors (as you can tell) and even helped with some of the painting. It's finally up in our backyard and she really loves it. Ruby's looking forward to sharing it with her sister, Molly, when Molly gets a little older. I put a mechanical door bell on the front and made the heart peep hole open up. The "secret" door in the back is also a favorite feature.
Best regards, Mike Jones, Belmont, MA

I just wanted to write and thank you for sharing your knowledge and imagination in these wonderful books. I have attached a couple of pictures of my adaptation of your Hobbit House featured in your book Treehouses and Playhouses...the directions and plans were really easy to follow and the illustrations awesome. I designed this one with the idea that when my 2 year old son gets bigger, the house can be moved and the whole Treehouse can turn into a boat...it took me about 3 weeks, working during nap times! Thank you again...
Sincerely, Therese McKirdy, BC, Canada

Dear David & Jeanie Stiles:
A couple of years back, I purchased your book "Treehouses and Playhouses You Can Build," and I want to thank you for the insights, techniques and terrific illustrations and designs contained in this book. My daughter will turn 10 in June, and I've been able to keep my promise to her by building a treehouse for her 12 feet up in a Pecan tree in our back yard. We started together on it in February, and she's absolutely thrilled with progress thus far. The platform's finished and we'll be finalizing the design for the "house" part of it this weekend. Your book was the impetus - without it, I might not have known where to begin! Also, through this project, my daughter and I have worked together to plan and execute it. I see the sense of accomplishment and ownership that has instilled in her. A wonderful experience, viewed from any side. Thanks again for everything you've done already to put a smile on my daughter's face.
With much appreciation, Jim Kenefick
